The Khmelnytskyi Regional Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1954, the very year Proskuriv was renamed Khmelnytskyi. Located on Podilska Street in the old part of the city, it keeps one of the largest collections on the history, nature and culture of Podillia. The displays include archaeological finds, ethnography and household items, materials about famous natives of the region, and natural history collections, among them an exhibition devoted to the insects of the region. The museum staff run archaeological, natural history and ethnographic expeditions, publish local history books and prepare themed and travelling exhibitions, so there is almost always something new to see.
