Volochysk Lake is a wide reservoir on the Zbruch River along the northern part of the town. For centuries the Zbruch was a border here: between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Austria, later between the Russian and Austro-Hungarian empires, and in 1920-1939 between the USSR and Poland. Today the river separates Khmelnytskyi and Ternopil oblasts, and a bridge links Volochysk with Pidvolochysk. The lakeshore is a favourite place for walks, fishing and sunset photos; waterfowl nest here in spring, and in summer the water is fringed with reeds and water plants. A small military vehicle museum stands by the water as well.
