Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Holy Scapular in Tarnoruda

Tarnoruda is a former Magdeburg-law town on the Zbruch, and its church is one of the oldest pilgrimage centres of Podillia. The masonry church was built in 1643 by Kateryna Sieniawska on the site of a wooden one, rebuilt in late Baroque style in 1754 at the expense of Izabela Lubomirska nee Czartoryska, and solemnly consecrated in 1763. From 1761 a miraculous image of the Merciful Jesus was venerated here, drawing pilgrims from both banks of the Zbruch. After Soviet-era looting the church was revived as a sanctuary; the main indulgence feast is traditionally held on the third Sunday of October, and summer camps take place here. The hilltop offers views over the Zbruch valley.
