Mordvinov Palace in Tarnoruda

The manor palace was built in the late 19th century by the Mordvinovs, the new owners of Tarnoruda, on the high bank of the Zbruch. The two-storey red-brick building with corner towers topped by spires and fortress-like retaining walls looks like a small castle. The ground floor had ten rooms and the upper floor a grand hall and six chambers; a staircase with wrought-iron railings survives inside, and cellars and fragments of walls remain on the grounds. In Soviet times it housed a school and an orphanage, and today it is the village school. The palace is a local architectural monument; view it from outside, respecting the school.
