Former Lutheran Church (Kirche)

The neo-Gothic Lutheran church of 1866 is a reminder of the days when Dunaivtsi was called the 'Podillia Manchester'. It was built for German colonists who had been settling here since the late 18th century and launched the local cloth industry: the first cloth mill in the town was founded in 1829, and by the early 20th century almost a thousand Lutherans lived here. After the Second World War the building housed the Gorky club, and today it is used by an Evangelical Christian Baptist congregation as the 'Bethlehem' house of prayer. The church is listed as an architectural monument of the second half of the 19th century and is part of the town's 'Podillia Manchester' tourist route. Its elegant neo-Gothic silhouette is one of the best photo spots in Dunaivtsi.
