The community's main celebration falls on the last Sunday of August, when Zhovti Vody marks City Day together with the miners' professional holiday, Miners' Day. For a town that grew out of iron and later uranium ore mining, it is a double occasion to honour working people and local history. Festivities traditionally centre on downtown, near the Palace of Culture on Peace Square and in Glory Park: concerts by local ensembles, tributes to miners and honorary citizens, exhibitions and entertainment for children. In some years the programme is combined with Independence Day, which falls in the same days. The exact format is announced annually by the city council, taking the security situation into account.
