School Oak

A botanical natural monument in Chortkiv: a pedunculate oak about a hundred years old with a trunk diameter of 63 cm. It grows on the grounds of the boarding school (now Gymnasium No. 3 named after Roman Iliashenko) at 13 Yevhena Konovaltsia Street. Protected status was granted by the Ternopil Oblast Council in 2006. The history of its planting is unknown, but it is closely tied to the school's story and is one of the oldest oaks in town. In the 1960s pupils laid out an orchard and a small arboretum nearby, so the grounds with the old oak are a pleasant green spot within the urban area.
