Samar celebrates City Day every September, usually on the Saturday of the third week of the month: in 2025 it fell on 20 September and in 2026 on 19 September. A whole programme is built around the main day: evening musical fountain shows, the walking tour "Architecture of Antiquity" through the historic centre along Palankova, Hetmanska and Shevchenko streets, Cathedral Square and Victory Square, ethnographic and art exhibitions at the Kalnyshevsky Museum and the Metalurh Palace of Culture, literary picnics and a quest around cultural venues. The sports side is traditionally tied to the Samara River: sport fishing competitions are held, and in 2026 there was also the "Samarivska Regatta" kayak and canoe race. In 2025 the town celebrated for the first time with its new brand, coat of arms, flag and anthem.
