The Birzula station, now Podilsk, appeared in 1865 on the Balta - Odesa line, and in 1868 one of Ukraine's first steam locomotive depots began operating here. The current station building dates from 1946 and remains one of the city's most notable structures. The station is a major junction of the Odesa Railways, so the city's history is closely tied to the rails. There are small parks by the station and the centre is not far.
